The basics
- official Playground Games makes Fable with its own team, separate from Forza Horizon, and Xbox Game Studios publishes it. Eidos Montreal was confirmed in 2024 as a support studio. Source: fablethegame.com (22 Jan 2026, since updated), Steam (checked 2 Oct 2026)
- official Fable is a reboot set in a reimagined, fully open Albion. It does not continue the story of the Lionhead games. Source: fablethegame.com (22 Jan 2026, since updated)
- official It is single-player only, with no multiplayer or co-op. Source: fablethegame.com (22 Jan 2026, since updated), Steam (checked 2 Oct 2026)
- official Ratings: ESRB M (Blood, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, Violence), PEGI 18 (Violence, Bad Language), USK 16, Australia M, Brazil 16 and Korea 19 (adults only). ESRB notes that you can kill villagers and that sex is implied but not shown. The Xbox store page still says "Rating Pending", which is out of date. Source: ESRB (checked 2 Oct 2026), Steam (checked 2 Oct 2026), Xbox Store (checked 2 Oct 2026)

Story and tone
- dev quote You start as a child whose Hero powers appear, then the story moves to adulthood in Briar Hill. Your grandmother and the village are turned to stone, and you set out to undo it. The main quest has no ticking clock. Source: Xbox Wire (22 Jan 2026)
- dev quote Ralph Fulton says the childhood opening lasts about 90 minutes. Source: Official Xbox Podcast (9 Sep 2026)
- dev quote Fulton told The Guardian the main quest is low urgency on purpose. The finale is the only point where you are locked in, and the ending is a choice with a real personal cost. Source: GamesRadar+ (from The Guardian) (15 Sep 2026)
- dev quote Fulton describes the tone as fairytale rather than fantasy, with British humour in the vein of Peep Show, The IT Crowd and The Office. The game has mockumentary-style interview scenes. Source: Xbox Wire (22 Jan 2026)
- official The main story takes about 15 to 20 hours, with another 15 to 20 hours of side content. Relationships, property and businesses come on top of that. Source: fablethegame.com (22 Jan 2026, since updated)
Story spoiler: who turns Briar Hill to stone
In the Official Xbox Podcast transcript, Ralph Fulton names Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh, as the one who turns Briar Hill to stone. Earlier material from January 2026 only called this person a mysterious stranger. Source: Official Xbox Podcast (9 Sep 2026), Steam (checked 2 Oct 2026), Xbox Wire (22 Jan 2026)
More: Characters and cast.
Reputation and morality
- dev quote There is no good and evil meter. NPCs who see what you do judge it in their own way, each settlement shows a word cloud of your reputations, and you can pay the Town Crier to overwrite one. Source: Xbox Wire (22 Jan 2026)
- dev quote You can hold up to six active Reputations in each settlement. NPCs can like you, dislike you, fear you or fancy you, says Lead Game Designer Dan Greer. Source: Xbox Wire (10 Jun 2026)
- dev quote Your looks do not change with your choices, so no horns or halo. Fulton said a changed look would give you away and break the per-town reputations. Source: GamesRadar+ (from IGN) (25 Jan 2026)
The Living Population
- official More than 1,000 hand-made NPCs live in Albion. Each has a Trait, a home, a job and a daily schedule, and about 100 actors voice them. Source: Xbox Wire (10 Jun 2026)
- dev quote Ralph Fulton says the game has more than 150,000 lines of dialogue. Source: TechRadar (11 Jun 2026)
- official NPCs remember what you do, and every adult NPC can be killed. Settlements slowly repopulate, and their Settlement Traits change. Source: Xbox Wire (10 Jun 2026)
More: Romance, marriage and co-op.
Other systems

- official The character creator lets you choose heads, hair styles, skin tones and more. Lily Nichol and Ukweli Roach voice the Hero. Source: fablethegame.com (22 Jan 2026, since updated), Xbox Wire (7 Jun 2026)
